The Phantom II was introduced in 1929 as a successor to the New Phantom (retrospectively known as the Phantom I).
The Phantom II used a refinement of the Phantom I’s 7.7 L pushrod-OHV straight-6 engine, with a new cross flow cylinder head. Unlike on previous 40/50hp models, the engine was bolted directly to the 4-speed manual transmission. Synchromesh was added on gears 3 and 4 in 1932. Power was transmitted to the rear wheels using an open driveshaft, a hypoid bevel final drive, and Hotchkiss drive, replacing the torque tube from a remotely mounted gearbox used on earlier 40/50hp models.

This particular Phantom II started life as a saloon with coachwork by Thrupp & Maberly. At some stage in its life the chassis was acquired by a Danish gentleman living in Kenya, Mr H Baungaard, who brought it back to Denmark with its one-off, beautifully constructed wooden boat tail. The custom touring body was made in Kenya by a Mr Tanner, a very capable craftsman mentioned in the novel ‘Out of Africa’ by the Danish writer Karen Blixen.

Restored at considerable expense during the 1990s, the car is described as in generally very good condition and offered with Kenyan identity papers for 1977 and a Danish technical inspection document from 1992.
